The exhibition "ANDERS NORMAL! Revision einer Sehschwäche" at Märkisches Museum Witten addresses the gender gap in art. The title of the exhibition refers to the work "The Other Sex" by the French philosopher Simone de Beauvoir, which shows that women are not perceived as "normal" in a male-dominated world, but as the "other". It is a historical and societal visual flaw that women artists were or still are underrepresented in the art world. Works by 50 selected female artists from the museum's collection show a different view of the development of art from 1900 to the present, aim to counteract this deplorable state of affairs, advocate for more equality in art and fill the gaps that have arisen as a result. Visitors can access further information, videos and texts via a VR application wich recognises the artworks and by scanning NFC chips next to the works. Open till 20 February 2022.
