NEUBAU WITTEN is the temporary new conception and redesign of the forecourt of the Saalbau Witten. The redesign refers to the existing design from the 1970s and the architecture of the Saalbau. The result is a place to linger with seating furniture and a multifunctional area. The sculpture by Gerlinde Beck is surrounded by a 360° stage and the two containers can be used flexibly, for example as a changing exhibition space for the city archive or as a temporary bar in times of the pandemic. NEUBAU WITTEN is a participatory place that will actively involve civil society in the future development of the cultural institutions. The planting concept pays special attention to the role and ecological function of green spaces in urban areas. It combines the approaches of a prairie garden, which are rather close to nature, with those of a nature garden, which resembles a naturally grown space.
